Ayasofya Museum (Hagia Sophia)

One of the finest and largest architectural works of art in the world. The Saint Sophia Museum was built in the 6th century by the Emperor Justinian, it was one of the largest basilicas in the Christian world. After the Ottoman conquest, it was converted to a mosque and is today one of the most magnificent museums in the world. It has been nominated to be the 8th wonder of the world by many historians. Take a moment to linger here to absorb the majestic serenity and admire the fine Byzantine mosaics.

 

Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii)

Just across the Hippodrome, showing itself as one of the most famous monuments in both Turkish and Islamic worlds is the Sultan Ahmet Mosque (also known as the Blue Mosque). One of the truly superb creations in the classical Turkish architectural style, it stands unique with six towering minarets and 260 windows that illuminate its vast main chamber decorated with more than 20,000 beautiful Iznik tiles.

 

Hippodrome

Once the site of a Roman Imperial Palace and later of horse-drawn chariot races. Here is located the famous obelisk from Egypt, a remarkable pink granite monument built 3,500 years ago by an Egyptian pharo and brought to Byzantium in the 4th century.

 

Topkapi Palace

Now, for what many people consider as one of the most unique places in the world, as well as being the world's largest and oldest Palace: The Topkapi Palace and Museum. Here is the crown jewel of the Ottoman Empire, showing its treasures. 

 

Grand Bazaar

The oldest and largest covered market in Istanbul with 4000 shops selling  jewellery, fabrics, furs, leather, copper, rugs, antiques, etc.

Chora Church (Kariye Camii Museum)

Chora Church (Kariye Camii in Turkish) is the most interesting Byzantine church after Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The importance of the church does not come from the building itself , the frescoes and the mosaics are superb and reflect the magnificient heritage of Byzantine Art.

 

Süleymaniye Mosque

Considered the most beautiful of all imperial mosques in Istanbul, it was built between 1550 and 1557 by Sinan, the renowned architect of the Ottoman Empire's golden age. Erected on the crest of a hill, the building is conspicuous for its great size, emphasized by the four minarets that rise from each comer of the courtyard.

 

Basilica Cistern

An enormous underground Byzantine Cistern. 336 Corinthian columns support fine brick vaulting.

 

Shopping

Try one of the nicest shopping centers of Istanbul for jewellery, leather, copper, rugs, antiques, etc.

 

Grand Cover Bazaar

Most attractive shopping centre and the biggest ‘ souk ‘ in the world with nearly 4000 shops of antiques, jewellery, gold, carpets and leather wear.

Spice (Egyptian) Bazaar, mystical aromas of various spices. Shops selling fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish etc..

 

Bosphorus Cruise

Bosphorus Cruise, through the waterway separating two continents, Europe and Asia, with a possibility of taking photographs of marble palaces, ancient wooden villas of Ottoman architecture besides modern residentials and luxurious apartments.

 

Rumeli Fortress

Rumeli Fortress, Historical armament built by the Conquerer to control and protect Bosphorus. A unique example of military architecture.

 

Dolmabahce Palace

Dolmabahce Palace, the last residence for Ottoman Sultans with 365 rooms and 22 saloons. Famous with the great collection of European antiquity, furniture and 4.5 ton chandelier.

 

Camlica Hill

Exposing a panoramic view of Istanbul and Bosphorus from the best point of view.

ASIAN SHORES - BEYLERBEYI PALACE

Beylerbeyi Palace

On the Asian side of the Bosphorus, this Palace was built of white marble in the 19th century as a summer residence of the sultans.

 

Camlıca Hill

Drive to the Asian part of Istanbul through the Intercontinental Bosphorus Bridge and enjoy a panoramic view from the highest point of Istanbul Camlica Hill.

Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum

Istanbul's Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum is a treasure-house of beautiful objects from the Ottoman (14th to 20th centuries), Seljuk (11th to 13th centuries), and earlier periods beginning in the 8th century. Turkish carpets, illuminated Kur'ans, calligraphy (at which the Ottomans excelled), carved and inlaid wood, glass, porcelain and stone are well displayed. Turkish ethnographic exhibits—a fully-furnished nomads' tent, a 19th-century Ottoman parlor, and others—extend the collection beyond mere beautiful objects shown out of context. The museum is housed in the restored Palace of Ibrahim Pasha.

Grand Bazaar

Grand Bazaar (Kapali Çarsi, or Covered Market) is Turkey's largest covered market offering excellent shopping: beautiful Turkish carpets, glazed tiles and pottery, copper and brassware, apparel made of leather, cotton and wool, meerschaum pipes, alabaster bookends and ashtrays, and all sorts of other things.

 

Akmerkez Shopping Mall

The Akmerkez complex covers an area of 180,000 m² and is comprised of a four-storey shopping area, with two towers offering 14 and 17 stories of office space, and a third tower with 24 stories of residential areas. The shopping area, offering visitors close to 250 stores with an ideally balanced shop-mix, is spread over a triangular area connected to the surrounding main roads through 3 atriums. There are 41 escalators, 2 panoramic elevators and 30 elevators providing greater speed and easy access for visitors. 2-2.5 million people visit the shopping center monthly. It provides outstanding women's, men's and children's clothing and textiles, stationery, toys, sports shoes, eyewear and gift shops along with restaurants, a hairdresser, a currency exchange office, electronic goods, car maintenance, shoe shine services, a tailor, travel agents, orthopedic goods and a supermarket for the shopper's every need. The shopping mall is now home to the world famous chic Italian restaurant Paper Moon, following branches in Milan and New York.
